Manchester United are the kings of Boxing Day - but Aston Villa have won just three times on 26 December

United have won a whopping 19 festive matches in 22 years, losing once

Manchester United are the undoubted kings of the Premier League at Christmas.

There must be something special in the turkey served by the Old Trafford canteen because United have won 19 of the 22 matches they've played on Boxing Day, more than any other team, American sportsbook Sports Interaction have found.

United have only lost one game on 26 December - a 3-1 defeat away to Middlesbrough in 2002 - drawing twice.

Such is their domination on the bank holiday that David Moyes even managed to record a win; though United had to battle back from conceding two goals in the first 15 minutes to win 3-2 against Hull City last season.

Arsenal are also good on Boxing Day, losing just one of their 22 fixtures, but they have had to go home for seconds with more draws than their rivals. The Gunners have won 15 of their matches.

Those two are way out in front on festive fixtures, with Liverpool way behind in third place, with the Reds winning less than half of their 22 matches.

However, Rafa Benitez clearly knew how to prepare his team for the day, with five of those coming in the six Boxing Day games that he took charge of between 2004 and 2010.

At the other end of the scale, Swansea City will be delighted to hear that Aston Villa have the worst record on Boxing Day. The Swans are yet to record a win in three attempts on 26 December, but the Midlands club have won just three times in 22 attempts, drawn five times with 14 defeats, a frankly embarrassing record. Everton don't fare much better, with six wins, seven draws and nine defeats.

Burnley and Hull are also winless, though they've played just four Boxing Day matches between them.

It could be a very merry Christmas for Louis van Gaal as Manchester United's Boxing Day dominance looks set to continue - they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford, a team who have won just four times in 20 games on the day after Christmas.
