Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has been branded a ‘coward’ and ‘arrogant’ by ex-teammate Paul Parker.

Parker played in front of Schmeichel for six years at Old Trafford, winning three Premier League titles together under Sir Alex Ferguson between 1991 and 1996.

The Big Dane was known for regularly berating his defenders during games but Parker has seemingly not forgiven Schmeichel for his behaviour around the squad.

He told YouTube channel Stadium Astro: “Big Pete was a little bit of a coward in certain ways. He was loud, but he wasn't one that was always going to front up all the time.

“He was a bit of a baby sometimes, he would throw his rattle out of the pram, he would sulk.

“Pete had a self-importance about him, he said. Massive self-importance. We were in one Sunday, and Bryan Robson had a magazine.

“In that magazine it was talking about Denmark, and it had a poll in there, and the poll was ‘Most important people in Denmark’.

“One was the king, and second was Peter Schmeichel. [Robson] was reading it to himself and all of a sudden he shouted out, ‘Lads, who's the second most important person in Denmark, do you think?’.

“Big Pete's gone, ‘It's me, it's me’, and that sums up big Pete. He had such an ego, he was so arrogant.

“He'd get home from training and tell his wife, ‘I'm going to sleep, and now I need you, when I wake up, to make me a bowl of pasta.’ And that was Pete.”
