The Marcus Rashford fairytale continues.

Manchester United’s 18-year-old striker, who scored a brace against Midtjylland in Europa League after coming into the side for the injured Anthony Martial, has repeated the trick in the first half against Arsenal.

After the away side’s Nacho Monreal had wasted the game’s first opportunity, Rashford opened the scoring on the half hour mark, sweeping a shoot into Petr Cech’s top left-hand corner after the loose ball fell to him in the penalty area.

The second followed shortly after. Rashford, unmarked in the box and unchallenged in the air, simply nodded Jesse Lingard’s cross over his shoulder and into the net. Cech’s flailing right hand was helpless.

So, by virtue of Martial and club captain Wayne Rooney being unavailable, United may just have stumbled across a new star.

Their fans certainly think so, with many taking to social media to express their new-found affection for the Wythenshawe-born academy graduate.

Here’s the best of the Twitter reaction…

Danny Welbeck, once a homegrown darling of the K Stand himself, pulled one back for Arsenal before half-time.
