Italian loses head at end of Everton's 2-0 away victory

The Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, was involved in a remarkable touchline fight with his Everton counterpart David Moyes during the Merseysiders' 2-0 victory at Eastlands last night. Mancini took exception to Moyes picking up a ball, apparently interpreting the Scot's action as an attempt to waste time in injury-time.

It needed fourth official Howard Webb to intervene and referee Peter Walton sent both managers to the stand at the City of Manchester Stadium.

City's defeat – thanks to goals from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta – was further good news on a fine night for Tottenham Hotspur, who came from a goal down to beat Fulham 3-1 at a rainy White Hart Lane last night and reach their first FA Cup semi-final in nine years. The Londoners also retained fourth place in the Premier League table after City's defeat.

David Bentley was the hero for Spurs, coming off the bench at half-time with Fulham leading through Bobby Zamora's sweetly-struck 17th-minute goal and equalising with virtually his first touch, his curling cross missing everyone in a crowded penalty area and ending up in the net.

The home side took the lead in the 60th minute thanks to Roman Pavlyuchenko's half-volley. Eidur Gudjohnsen wrapped up victory six minutes later, taking the ball round Schwarzer before scoring in an empty net.

Another of their rivals for fourth, Aston Villa, also slipped up, being held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland which means they have dropped four points at Villa Park in their last two games.
