Memphis Depay has got to "settle" into life at Manchester United if he is to become the real deal, says club legend Gary Neville.

Louis van Gaal's newest signing won the Eredivisie Golden Boot this weekend with 22 goals in 30 matches for title-winning PSV Eindhoven.

His performances led Van Gaal, who managed him at the 2014 World Cup, to spend around £25million to bring him to Old Trafford.

Whilst Neville sees Depay as an "exciting" prospect, the 21-year-old Dutchman has a lot of work to do before proving himself at the club.

“It’s a typical Manchester United signing to sign someone who has got potential but hasn’t yet grown to become the finished product,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“United have done that over the years, particularly with foreign players.

“I think Depay looks like an exciting player but there’s a lot of obstacles to overcome to determine as to whether he going to become the real deal,” he added.

“He’s got to settle in the country and get used to playing football in Manchester. It will be different but it fits the bill in terms of him being a young player.”
