Memphis Depay will be 'eaten raw' on return to PSV Eindhoven as a Manchester United player

Former PSV coach Aad de Mos is not expecting the youngster to impress during this week's Champions League meeting

Memphis Depay will be "eaten raw" and "wiped out" when he returns to PSV Eindhoven this week for Manchester United's first Champions League group game, according to Aad de Mos, a former coach of the Dutch side.

Netherlands international Depay makes a swift return to the club he left over the summer after fate saw his new side paired with the Eredivisie champions during the group stage draw.

Depay has made a quick impact at Old Trafford, most notably with the double he scored against Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off. However, according to De Mos, Depay will struggle against former team-mate Santiago Arias.

"Depay is not going to get one bit of joy out of his return to Holland," De Mos told Omroep Brabrant.

"Santiago Arias, the Colombian international defender who knows him inside out, is going to eat him raw.

"Honestly, I am 100 per cent sure that Arias will wipe him out."

De Mos has backed PSV to get a result against Louis van Gaal's side on the basis of that he's seen this season.

"By the looks of it, Manchester United have a great team, but I've seen them play live twice and what they have done on the pitch is not impressive," he added.

"PSV have shown they can play very well, I saw at times that they are truly of an international class.

"Daley Blind is their main builder and Chris Smalling is a great defender. The attack has quality in Memphis and Wayne Rooney, but otherwise they are disappointing, so I think PSV can win."

Both Manchester United and PSV won ahead of Tuesday's game, with a 3-1 win over Liverpool and 6-0 thumping of Cambuur respectively.
