Michael Laudrup will not replace Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham, claims Swansea assistant manager Morten Wieghorst

Laudrup is among the favourites for the vacant role at White Hart Lane but Wieghorst says he hopes the former Real Madrid and Barcelona forward will reject any approach

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup will remain in charge at the Liberty Stadium and turn down any approach to take over at Tottenham, claims his assistant manager Morten Wieghorst.

Laudrup is among the favourites to succeed Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane along with current interim manager Tom Sherwood and Ajax’s Frank de Boer, but the Dane’s right-hand man believes that he will reject the chance to move as he has done in the past.

“I don't think the club should be worried," believes Wieghorst.

“We've seen in his time here he's been linked with a few vacant jobs and he's said: 'I'm staying'.

"Michael has always attracted interest and that's because he's doing a great job [and] because he's a great manager and because of what he's done in the game.”

Sherwood oversaw Spurs’ 2-1 defeat in the League Cup quarter-final to West Ham on Wednesday night, where two late goals were enough to overturn the deficit inflicted by Emmanuel Adebayor’s first goal of the season.

The Independent also understands that Sherwood will continue in his role for the trip to Southampton this weekend, as club chairman Daniel Levy makes plans to secure the next permanent manager with the side’s long-term future in mind.

Swansea host high-flying Everton on Sunday afternoon with the knowledge that the Toffees are unbeaten in nine league games which stretches back to the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in October. Despite the disruption regarding the future of their manager, the Swans’ players say they are unaffected by the speculation, although defender Angel Rangel admits they would not hold anything against Laudrup if he moved to a bigger club.

“We don't really talk about it,” said Rangel when asked about the prospect of Laudrup leaving for another club.

“We all believe in the manager and know that he's happy at Swansea, he's got a good bunch of players. If he decides to move, we'll always give him a great farewell because he's done well for us and for the club.

“We achieved great things last season with him - top 10 in the Premier League and winning the [Capital One] Cup.

“I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go to bigger club [but] I think he's happy at the moment.”
