Who has been shortlisted for PFA player of the year?

Manchester City trio Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane and David Silva have been shortlisted for the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award for the 2017-18 season.

Their brilliance in City's outstanding Premier League campaign to date has been recognised by their peers, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea making up the six-man shortlist for the award.

The winner will be announced at the PFA's annual awards ceremony in London on Sunday, April 22.

Sane and Kane are also on the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award. They are joined in that category by Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and Blues forward Raheem Sterling, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford and exciting Fulham prospect Ryan Sessegnon.

De Bruyne has been outstanding in City's march towards the Premier League title. His technical quality has been a key component in the slick football played by Pep Guardiola's side, and heading into the weekend the Belgian led the top flight for assists with 15.

He has also weighed in with seven goals.

Lightning-quick Germany winger Sane is second in the assists table behind De Bruyne with 12 and has also scored nine times in the Premier League.

Silva is the only one of the three to taste Premier League glory with City in the past, having been part of the squad which lifted the trophy in 2012 and 2014.

The Spain playmaker has eight goals and 11 assists to his name in a City team which has dominated the competition this year.

Kane and Salah had a phenomenal 54 Premier League goals between them heading into the weekend.

England striker Kane reached 100 career Premier League goals in February while Salah has enjoyed a stellar debut season at Anfield and went into the weekend's action needing just one more goal to reach 40 in all competitions for the Reds.

The Egypt star scored in both legs as Liverpool knocked out City to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League earlier this week.

De Gea has enjoyed another excellent campaign for United, and will be hoping to become the first goalkeeper to win the award since Peter Shilton in 1978.

PFA Players' Player of the Year nominees

KEVIN DE BRUYNE (Manchester City)

The Belgium playmaker has flourished in Pep Guardiola's system, with his range of passing providing some of the most memorable highlights of City's march towards the title.

DAVID DE GEA (Manchester United)

A string of outstanding performances and improbable saves have made De Gea a key figure in United's progress to second in the league.

HARRY KANE (Tottenham)

The England frontman may come up short to Salah in his bid for a third successive Premier League Golden Boot but looks set to fire Spurs to a top-four finish once again.

MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool)

The Egypt international's relentless form in Liverpool's front line means Philippe Coutinho has not been missed since his January move to Barcelona.

Did you know? Salah has been directly involved in 50 goals in all competitions this season - scoring 39, with 11 assists - in just 44 appearances.

LEROY SANE (Manchester City)

One of two players, along with Kane, nominated for both the main award and young player of the year, the winger has popped up with nine goals and 12 assists in his second Premier League season.

Did you know? Sane is still awaiting his first senior international goal after 11 appearances for Germany.

DAVID SILVA (Manchester City)

Despite missing several games for personal reasons after the premature birth of his son, the Spain star remains integral to the success of Guardiola's side.

Did you know? Silva has reached double figures for Premier League assists for the third time with 11, matching his tally from two years ago while he had 15 in 2011-12.

His City counterpart Ederson has proved to be an excellent addition for his club after goalkeeper proved a problem position for Guardiola last season. His reward is a place on the Young Player of the Year shortlist.

City team-mate Sterling has been impressive in front of goal this term, and his 16 league strikes place him joint fourth in the competition.

Sessegnon is the youngest player on the list at 17. He has been instrumental in Fulham's push to reach the Premier League, scoring 14 times in the Sky Bet Championship.

Men's PFA Young Player of the Year Nominees

HARRY KANE (Tottenham)

At the age of 24, Kane remains eligible for both awards three years after he was named young player of the year.

Did you know? After his traditional scoreless August, Kane scored 13 goals in eight games for Spurs and England in September.

EDERSON (Manchester City)

After a difficult season for Claudio Bravo last time around, the Brazil international has solved Guardiola's goalkeeping worries after his summer arrival from Benfica.

Did you know? If successful, Ederson would become the first Brazilian to win any of the PFA awards other than Merit award, won by Pele in 1996.

MARCUS RASHFORD (Manchester United)

The 20-year-old England forward has continued to impress when called upon this term, scoring six Premier League goals including two in last month's 2-1 victory over Liverpool.

Did you know? If victorious, Rashford would become the first Manchester United player to win this accolade since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007.

LEROY SANE (Manchester City)

Sane scored six goals in City's top-flight record 18-match winning run from August to December and has continued to impress.

RYAN SESSEGNON (Fulham)

The full-back has kicked on from his involvement in England's victorious European Under-19 Championship squad to score 14 goals so far in Fulham's promotion push.

Did you know? Sessegnon is the first player on record outside of the top flight to be nominated for this award.

RAHEEM STERLING (Manchester City)

The England forward established his importance with three late winners during City's record winning run and is a firm favourite of Guardiola.
