Son Heung-Min has won the Premier League’s 2019/20 Goal of the Season award for his stunning solo effort against Burnley in December.

The Tottenham midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of his own penalty box before storming away from a crowd of Burnley players and evading two challenges to place the ball beyond Nick Pope.

Son dribbled 71.4 metres in just 11 seconds, the second-longest distance travelled by a player to score a goal in Premier League history – behind Andros Townsend for Crystal Palace in 2016/17.

“As soon as I got the ball, I tried to find a pass and I was a bit lucky,” Son said of his goal in December. “I dribbled into the space where no one was.

“I tried to finish it well, because the action before was really quick. I was really focused on my finishing. It was an amazing feeling.”

Son’s finish topped a nine-goal shortlist consisting of each of this season’s monthly winners.

The season-ending accolade went to Son thanks to the combined votes of a panel of experts and the public.
