Jose Mourinho spent little time celebrating Chelsea’s Premier League title triumph. Having joined his family in the stand at Stamford Bridge and congratulated the players that defeated Crystal Palace 1-0, he made a swift exit to a nearby hospital to visit Blues’ midfielder Ramires.

The Brazilian was pencilled in on the team-sheet when the line-ups were released an hour before the 1.30pm kick-off. But shortly before the start of the match, he was replaced by Colombian Juan Cuadrado, and it soon emerged that he had been struck by illness.

The 28-year-old has deteriorated enough that he needed to go to hospital, but Chelsea fans will be pleased to see the Brazil international back on his feet and celebrating the triumph after recovering from a “renal complication”, having had a problem with his kidneys.

He posted a picture on Instagram with a “Champions 2014-15” scarf which included the words: “Hello guys! As you saw, I was very sick yesterday minutes before the match because of a renal complication, but I’m well and home with my family. Thank God it was nothing serious and I will be fully recovered in a few weeks.

“Thank you to all that sent me messages and were with me. I would like to thank the Chelsea’s medical team for the exceptional job. I was sad not to be part of the party on the pitch, but very pleased with the title, the only English title I had left to concur. Congratulations Chelsea!”

Luckily for Ramires, as well as his good health, he will be able to participate in their open-top bus parade, which has been confirmed for Bank Holiday Monday 25 May, when they will celebrate the club’s Premier League triumph, Capital One Cup success and FA Youth Cup victory with the academy on the streets of south-west London.
