Karim Benzema has launched a stinging attack on Olivier Giroud by describing him as a go kart and himself as a Formula One car.

The Real Madrid striker has been frozen out of the France side since 2015 with the Chelsea forward playing a key role in securing the 2018 World Cup, despite not scoring in Russia.

Benzema meanwhile has collected four Champions League medals in his time at the Bernabeu.

And the 32-year-old is now sixth in the all-time top scorers for Los Blancos on 241 goals, just one behind the legendary Ferenc Puskas.

“This won’t take long,” Benzema told French actor and comedian Thomas N’Gijol on Instagram live when comparing himself with Giroud.

“You don’t confuse F1 with go karting. And I’m being kind. Next... and I know i’m F1.

“It works because he’s there. That’s all. It’s not going to be spectacular, it’s not going to be anything crazy but in his way you see more of a [Antoine] Griezmann or [Kylian] Mbappe because he will put the work in.

“Does everyone like that way of playing? I don’t know.”
