Reece Oxford: West Ham youngster takes to Twitter to dismiss rumours of rejected contract

The 17-year-old midfielder, who is under contract until 2018, was said to have turned down an extension at the club

West Ham United youngster Reece Oxford has dismissed rumours suggesting that he has rejected a new contract offer from the club.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who is under contract at the east London club until 2018, had reportedly turned down extended terms with the Hammers, according to Sky Sports.

Rated as one of most talented players to come through the club’s vaunted academy in years, Oxford is said to have attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, Oxford himself took to social media to rubbish the speculation regarding his contract situation on Tuesday night, tweeting: “Wow rumours will be rumours!”

Oxford became the youngest player in the Hammers’ history when he made his competitive debut in a Europa League qualifier against FC Lusitanos last summer.

The midfielder’s profile was boosted when he started and impressed in Slaven Bilic’s side’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on the first day of the season.

Oxford went on to make a total of 12 senior appearances for the Hammers over the course of the campaign and regularly appeared for the club's development squad, leading them to victory in the Under-21s Cup.
