Samir Nasri has admitted he can be "arrogant" and "a jerk".

The Manchester City midfielder offered the highly honest assessment of his character in an interview with French publication L'Equipe 21.

The former Arsenal player, who recently returned from injury and was on target against Stoke City last night, has a reputation for causing controversy.

Many Arsenal fans retain a grudge over the manner of his transfer to Manchester City whilst the 27-year-old retired from international duty soon after he was left out of France's World Cup squad - a decision that was understood to relate to a breakdown in his relationship with national coach Didier Dechamp.

"From time to time, I’m a jerk. Sometimes it is better to buckle but it is something I can’t do," he told L'Equipe 21.

"I managed when I was younger and sometimes I went home with a knot in my stomach.

"Afterwards, you go off, but not with the right person.

"I’d therefore prefer to say everything I think, even if it means I’m not liked, even if it means I sound arrogant and a little *****.

"At least the folk I do like don’t have to suffer."
