Tony Pulis insists there is 'no chance' of a sensational return to Crystal Palace

Former Palace boss rules out any chance of a return to the Eagles

Tony Pulis has laughed off any suggestions that he is set to complete a sensational U-turn and return to Crystal Palace just over a week after leaving the Selhurst Park club.

The former Stoke City boss led the Eagles to safety last season and won the Premier League Manager of the Year in doing so.

Pulis became increasingly frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at the club, however, and left by mutual consent just three days before the new season.

Now working as a pundit for beIN Sports, the Welshman told viewers: “Going back where? [Palace] No, no. No chance.”

Odds had shortened dramatically on a stunning come-back, with him becoming fourth favourite last night, after Malky Mackay's texting scandal resulted in Palace looking elsewhere.

Tim Sherwood, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, was also offered the post but talks between the two parties broke down earlier this week.

The nature of Pulis's exit, so late into pre-season, has left the 56-year-old 'disappointed' but he is at peace with his reasons for leaving.

“Having spent the whole pre-season working with the players – going to Austria, America and Germany – to prepare everything for the new season and not to get started with them is a little a disappointing,” he said the beIN Sports studio in Doha.

"But a situation arose where we amicably came to an agreement, and I’m here with you instead."

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Steve Clarke, who was sacked by West Brom last season, are the new favourites to fill the vacant post at Selhurst Park.
