Alan Shearer has spoken out against Harry Kane’s recent lack of form, arguing that the Tottenham player is tired and devoid of confidence.

Kane scored 25 Premier League goals for Spur last season as the club finished third in the league, but failed to find the net at Euro 2016.

This lull has followed the Englishman into the start of the new season. Kane has struggled in front of goal in his last four games for both club and country and has yet to get on the scoresheet.

Shearer has suggested that the player is looking run down and is low on confidence.

“To me, he looks very tired, heavy-legged and short of confidence,” the former Newcastle striker said.

“I’m not really sure what has happened... He hit 32 goals for Tottenham and England last season in 64 appearances.

“However, his last goal came in a friendly win over Turkey in May. He had a terrible Euros and has now not scored in nine appearances for club and country.”

Shearer, who scored 260 Premier League goals throughout his career to set an English record, feels the 23-year-old was lucky to start in England’s first qualifier for the 2018 World Cup.

Sam Allardyce’s side clinched a last-ditch goal, courtesy of Adam Lallana, to take all three points and get 'Big Sam's' tenure off to a winning start.

“I was surprised he even started, with Jamie Vardy having found the net twice already this season, including in the Community Shield. As it was, Vardy did not even get on the pitch last night,” Shearer said in The Sun.

“It is difficult when teams defend well — as Slovakia did both here and when the teams met in France.

“But we needed more movement, more creation, more from the full-backs and Wayne Rooney further forward.

“Maybe we have a lucky manager, goodness knows we need something. A win is a win and Sam Allardyce would have taken that before the start, in what was our toughest game in a group we should walk.

“Sam cannot be judged on just four days with the players. But, at times, it seemed like we were back in France.”
