Daniel Sturridge appeared to look less than happy after fellow substitute Divock Origi was brought on ahead of him during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The England international striker was benched by Jürgen Klopp for the lunchtime kick-off, despite scoring twice in Tuesday’s 5-0 League Cup win at Burton Albion.

Sturridge saw his team-mates take the lead through James Milner’s penalty just before half-time.

When Philippe Coutinho was withdrawn shortly after the break, he may have expected to come on.

Klopp, however, opted for Origi and television cameras subsequently captured a look of bemusement on Sturridge’s face.

The 26-year-old’s reaction did not go unnoticed among those watching from home, with many supporters commenting about it on social media.

Following the win at Burton, Sturridge voiced his frustrations with Klopp’s decision to play him in a wide role rather than as a central striker.

"Of course it is more difficult for me to play wide,” he said. “I'm a centre-forward. In the modern day game you have to try and be flexible but everyone knows my best position.

"Everyone knows where I enjoy playing the most. I'm a player who plays on instinct, and in the middle I have clarity on movements and things that I have been doing for years.

“I am on autopilot there. You just do things because you are used to doing it.”

The 26-year-old was eventually brought on in the 88^th minute, but only after Danny Rose had equalised for the hosts.
