West Brom vs Chelsea: Tony Pulis hopes sale of West Brom will provide investment this summer

Baggies boss wants to be active in the transfer market

Chelsea, a club with ample investment from their benefactor, will on Monday evening aim to secure the 26th Premier League victory of their title-winning season against a club seeking a rich new owner of their own.

West Bromwich Albion are up for sale, with chairman Jeremy Peace looking to strike a deal before July to ensure a takeover does not drag on and harm summer plans. He is understood to want between £150m and £200m for the club, and manager Tony Pulis knows West Brom, who are looking forward to a sixth straight Premier League season after securing safety, need investment to progress.

“Everybody understands the pressure that’s on now, especially from clubs in the Premier League, to spend more, to invest more, and everybody wants to be in the Premier League,” Pulis said. “I think the chairman is thinking there might be somebody out there who’s got that money to help West Brom push on again.”

Before what may be Peace’s final game at The Hawthorns as owner, Pulis was keen to credit him with the security the club has enjoyed. “He’s done a fantastic job,” the manager said. “He hasn’t just thought about what’s happening on the pitch and wasted money on players. The infrastructure of this club and the financial place it’s in is pretty remarkable.”

Jose Mourinho says Chelsea will give everything on Monday night, despite having already sewn up the title. “We all need to respect the game and play for the best result,” he said.
