Wahbi Khazri: Has Sunderland man just beaten David Dunn in the rabona stakes?
The 25-year-old joined the North East outfit in January from Bordeaux for an undisclosed fee
New Sunderland signing Wahbi Khazri channelled his inner David Dunn to attempt, and fail, a rabona-kick during the Black Cats’ defeat by West Ham United.
The 25-year-old joined the North East outfit in January from Bordeaux for an undisclosed fee and was described by manager Sam Allardyce as a “dynamic attacking player” to help their fight against relegation.
Khazri was handed the opportunity to show Sunderland fans what he’s made of at Upton Park but, with moments to spare, the Tunisian attracted derision when he attempted a trick made famous by Dunn’s similarly spectacular failed attempt.
Bursting down the flank with menace, with James Collins applying pressure, he tried to cross the ball with his outside boot. What transpired, however, we can only assume wasn’t part of the plan.
The visitors fell to a 1-0 defeat which leaves them entrenched in the bottom three courtesy of Michail Antonio’s 30th minute strike. The Hammers, meanwhile, climb to 5th in the Premier League table and continue their hunt for European football.
Here's the moment in all it's glory...
