I love the North London Derby - Arteta

Arsenal moved eight points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table after securing their first away win in the north London derby since 2014. The Gunners started quickly and piled pressure on Antonio Conte’s Tottenham who are notoriously slow starters.

Bukayo Saka proved a dangerous threat on the right wing and gave Arsenal the lead when Hugo Lloris fumbled a fizzing cross over his own goal line. Mikel Arteta’s men continued to attack and after a couple of sighters Martin Odegaard sank one from range, beating Lloris with a low driving shot to the far bottom corner.

Spurs responded after the break with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Ryan Sessegnon coming close but all getting denied by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Arsenal then settled the game down and cruised to victory in a sedate last 10 minutes.

Arsenal blitz slow-starting Tottenham to win north London derby and extend lead at the top

After a victory of superior conviction, and a better vision of football, Arsenal must surely now believe.

The doubts will meanwhile only grow around Antonio Conte, all the more so because of how submissively Tottenham Hotspur allowed their greatest rivals their strongest position of the season yet. Arsenal again went eight points clear at the top, but this time after taking advantage of a crucial Manchester City slip, and after yet another big-game win - and another derby win.

This 2-0 win ensured Mikel Arteta’s team completed the first double in the north London derby since 2013-14, and it must foster belief they complete a first title win since 2003-04.

It’s all got more real, just as the pressure has gone up.

The pressure should only go up on Conte, whose side were booed off, after an ugly end to the game. Arsenal’s players meanwhile went from getting goaded by Spurs fans to celebrating with their own.

More from Ramsdale

Ramsdale also spoke about the game and believes that his team deserved the victory today saying:

“We deserved the two-goal lead and maybe deserved more. We played the way we wanted to play in the first half and got the deserved lead.”

“That’s what I’m there to do [make saves to deny Kane and Son]. The manager also mentioned that in the last few north London derbies we haven’t kept a clean sheet, so that spurred me on a bit.”

Reaction from Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, was also on media duties after the game and gave an explanation about the post-match incident.

“The Spurs fans gave me some throughout the game. I was giving some back.” Ramsdale said, “The people I did give it to greeted it in sportsmanlike terms but one fan tried to give me a little punch on the back.

“It is a shame as it is just a game of football at the end of the day. Both sets of players tried to bring me away but thankfully nothing too drastic happened.

“It is a sour taste but I’m sure we will enjoy it when we go back into the dressing room.”

Reaction from Martin Odegaard

Martin Odegaard spoke to Sky Sports after the game and touched on what it feels like to win the north London derby as well as being top of the Premier League table.

“It is about time. It felt amazing.” he said, “We remembered what happened here last time and we wanted to play a better game and show a different side to us. We enjoyed the game.

“We are in a good position, there is no doubt about that. We’ve got to stay humble and keep working hard. You saw the difference in the first and second half today so we have things to improve. We have to keep going.”

Tottenham fan appears to kick Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal win north London derby

Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur was marred in the moments after the full-time whistle as a supporter from the home side appeared to try and kick Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Television cameras clearly showed the fan stood up on the advertising hoardings and aiming a kick at the stopper as he walked away from a clash with Spurs attacker Richarlison moments earlier, towards his water bottle behind the goal.

Tottenham vs Arsenal player ratings: Martin Odegaard scythes through Spurs in easy win

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points as they won 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

The visitors swarmed their hosts from kick-off and it was no surprise that they took the lead on 14 minutes - even if the manner of the goal itself was unexpected, as Hugo Lloris contrived to throw a simple cross over his own shoulder and into the net.

As the onslaught continued, Antonio Conte’s side had no answer and no way of stopping the shots coming in, with Martin Odegaard eventually finding the bottom corner to make it two before the break.

Harry Kane came closest to finding a consolation or a route back into the match for Spurs, but he and his teammates were well below par and found Aaron Ramsdale in fine form when chances did fall their way, leading to another big-game defeat for Conte and boos from the stands

Here are the player ratings from Sunday’s north London derby.

FT Tottenham 0-2 Arsenal

There’s a bit of aggro at the conclusion of the match involving Aaron Ramsdale. Most of his teammates, including manager Mikel Arteta, sprint over and take him away from the goal.

It seems as though a couple of fans tried to get onto the pitch where he was.
