By midday, the story of the day saw Monaco’s Radamel Falcao agree a season-long loan with Manchester United. The Independent understands the deal has cost United £9 million with Falcao’s wages taking that figure up to a cool £20 million.

United boss Louis van Gaal is also set to offload a number of other players on the final day of the transfer window. Danny Welbeck could go out on loan, with Sunderland and Tottenham both keen.

Loans seem to be in vogue on Monday with Javier Hernandez also set to leave United on loan. Reports suggest United and Real Madrid have agreed a season-long loan for Hernandez.

Hull and Aston Villa look set to battle it out for Tom Cleverly although his wage demands are causing trouble: Cleverley is demanding around £60,000 a week.

Harry Redknapp could use his tried-and-tested tactic of signing former players from his old clubs, with the QPR manager looking to get Jermain Defoe, Sandro or Aaron Lennon on loan.
