Adam commits to Blackpool after late drama

Blackpool's Charlie Adam pledged his commitment to the club late last night, despite an extraordinary deadline day in which two Liverpool bids valuing him up to £10m and an even higher eleventh hour Tottenham offer failed as it missed the deadline.

Adam looked disconsolate when he emerged from the club at 9pm, an hour after the second Liverpool bid of the day, tabled at 8pm, was rejected, but returned to Bloomfield Road at 10.40pm looking delighted and declaring that it was "going to be all right". Spurs' bid was thought to be near £12m, though Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said last night that his chairman Daniel Levy ran out of time. "At four minutes to 11 it looked like we could pull it off. We needed a couple of signatures from a couple of shareholders at Blackpool but we ran out of time. I think he is a fantastic player; he really can play."

Blackpool have further added to their midfield options by signing Andy Reid from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee. The Ireland midfielder was on loan at Sheffield United between October and December and is now contracted at Bloomfield Road until the end of the season. Reid, who has 27 caps for the Republic, was signed for Sunderland by Roy Keane at the end of the January window three years ago but fell out of favour under Steve Bruce. Blackpool also signed James Beattie and Jason Puncheon on loan from Rangers and Southampton respectively. Sunderland have also lost Paulo da Silva: the Paraguayan centre-back has moved to Real Zaragoza for an undisclosed fee.

Fulham have signed the former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan until the end of the season from Stoke City.

The 32-year-old made just five substitute appearances games for Stoke since joining them in the summer and was a target last month for Swansea City, who could not afford his wages. Frozen out by manager Tony Pulis, at Fulham he gives Mark Hughes cover in attack while he awaits the return of Bobby Zamora from injury.

Newcastle United signed Stephen Ireland on loan from Aston Villa. The former Ireland midfielder joined Villa in the summer as part of the deal that took James Milner to Manchester City, where Ireland won the player of the season award in 2008-09. Villa have in turn brought in the United States international midfielder Michael Bradley on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Blackburn Rovers completed two signings yesterday: the 19-year-old Spanish forward Ruben Rochina joins from Barcelona on a four-and-a-half-year deal while Argentine midfielder Mauro Formica has signed from Newell's Old Boys, both players arriving for undisclosed fees.

El Hadji Diouf has left Blackburn to sign for Rangers on loan. Arsenal's Kyle Bartley has also moved to Ibrox on loan. Stoke have sold the Turkish forward Tuncay Sanli to the German club Wolfsburg for a fee of €5.2m (£4.4m). Wigan signed 24-year-old Irish strike Conor Sammon from Kilmarnock for a fee between £500,000 and £1m.
