Manchester United could be tempted to allow Brazilian flop Anderson to leave the club for free in January.

The 26-year-old is out of contract next summer but the club could allow him to make a move in the transfer window, with clubs in his native Brazil reported to be interested.

According to the Daily Mail, Gremio and Flamengo are leading the race for Anderson, who has made just five Premier League appearances since the start of last season; he spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina, where he failed to win a regular first-team place.

The Serie A club opted to not take up an option to buy him in the summer.

Bought for £20million in 2007, Anderson made a good start to his Old Trafford career before injuries, fitness and weight issues started to plague him.

Former club Gremio are believed to be in pole position for his signature, and hope United will waive a nominal fee for his transfer.
