Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has admitted that there is interest from Barcelona for his services.

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a £12m move to the Nou Camp throughout the summer and now the combative midfielder has confirmed the speculation.

The Cameroon international told Sky Sports: "I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest."

Song will only have one year remaining on his Arsenal contract next summer (the position they currently find themselves in with Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott this year), which at least puts the Gunners in a strong position to withstand Barcelona's advances, although they did lose captain Cesc Fabregas to the Catalans in 2011.

It would also appear that Song is less inclined towards a switch away from the Emirates than his former team-mate, adding today: "I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal."

Arsenal will be desperate to hold on to the midfielder as they look to build on a strong finish to last season. Van Persie still looks likely to depart, but the summer arrivals of Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla have raised expectations for the season ahead.

Yet the lure of Barcelona cannot be ignored: "Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes," Song added.
