Arsene Wenger is again interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender and has made him his top target, according to reports.

Arsenal have been chasing the German midfielder since last summer, failing with a bid to bring him to the Emirates.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have made another enquiry for the versatile 25-year-old midfielder.

Leverkusen are reluctant to sell Bender, who missed the World Cup through injury, having handed him a new long-term contract.

Should a deal for Bender not work out, then Wenger will look to Real Madrid's Sami Khedira and Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin as alternatives.

Germany midfielder Khedira remains part of Carlo Ancelotti's plans with Frenchman Schneiderlin a much more realistic option.
