Chelsea are closing in on the transfer of Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman as Jose Mourinho seeks competition for Cesar Azpilicueta following the sale of Filipe Luis.

According to the London Evening Standard, the 21-year-old is interested in leaving for Stamford Bridge meaning the agreement of a fee is likely to be the only hurdle which the Blues will need to leap.

Ghana international Rahman made 31 appearances for Augsburg last season as the Bundesliga minnows shocked pundits and supporters alike by finishing in the Europa League spots.

The player's representative Sascha Empacher said: "It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed."

Jose Mourinho is keen not to change too much after motoring to the Premier League title last season and has signed just four new recruits this pre-season - Radamel Falcao, Asmir Begovic, Nathan and Danilo Pantic.

The former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager is optimistic of luring Everton's England international centre-back John Stones to the capital and the club are preparing a new offer in the region of £30m.
