David Beckham is on the verge of completing a lucrative move to newly-wealthy French club Paris St-Germain that could see the former England captain earn over £10m by the end of next season.

The 36-year-old midfielder's contract with Los Angeles Galaxy runs out at the end of the year and after helping the MLS side clinch their national title with a 1-0 victory over Houston Dynamo on Sunday, Beckham is understood to be interested in a new challenge.

PSG, who were bought in the summer by Qatar Sports Investment and currently stand top of Ligue 1 after heavy transfer spending including the £38m signing of Argentina midfielder Javier Pastore from Palermo, have courted Beckham for a while. Talks have begun with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid playmaker and according to reports in the Daily Mail, a package worth up to £11.6m has been agreed that will take Beckham from January to the end of 2012-13. In that time PSG hope to become established in the Champions League and have a far greater international profile.

The French club's sporting director, Leonardo, who was Beckham coach during part of his stay with Milan, confirmed: "Yes, we've spoken. These situations take time. We'll see if something suits him and suits us.

"I know his history and he doesn't need to tell me his past. He went to Milan and it was the same thing. There is a rapport with him. When you talk about Beckham, you're talking about something big. Now his contract is finished, he will decide his future.

"Everybody's talking about PSG and that pleases me. PSG are on the up, there are 45,000 people in the stadium and everyone's happy."
