Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson is a loan target for three Championship clubs next month as he seeks regular first-team action after finding his opportunities limited at Old Trafford.

Burnley, Derby County and Bristol City are all interested in trying to bring in the Republic of Ireland international during the next transfer window. Gibson suffered damage to his ankle ligaments in August and has made only one appearance for his club this season, in the surprise 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup quarter-final last month.

Gibson, 24, is a possible starter for United's reserve team in their match against Liverpool at Altrincham tonight. Several scouts, including representatives of the three Championship clubs, are likely to be present, although any loan deal will probably be dependent on United agreeing to pay a substantial part of Gibson's wages.

Blackburn, Aston Villa and Sunderland had all expressed an interest in Gibson during the summer transfer window but his chances of securing a Premier League move in August were ended by the ankle injury.
