Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has given Chelsea an indication that he could be open to a summer move to Stamford Bridge after admitting he will assess his future in Paris at the end of the season.

The Blues attempted a last-ditch bid to sign Marquinhos last summer after their intense pursuit of Everton defender John Stones failed, although PSG were equally as dismissive of Chelsea’s interest. The 21-year-old Brazilian has since added another Ligue 1 title to his collection – the third of his three years in the French capital – after PSG retained their crown last weekend, but he has hinted that a summer transfer could be on the cards.

With John Terry set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expires and serious questions surrounding the current defensive line-up at Stamford Bridge, a return bid for Marquinhos could well be on the horizon.

Asked about his future, Marquinhos responded: “My future is in Paris? At the moment, yes. But I can only speak of the present.

“Everyone knows you have to have a reflection at the end of the season.

“We’ll talk about the objectives of the club and of me personally. Right now I try to remain professional.

“I try to work to win my place and to have playing time. We’ll see how the season will finish. Afterwards, there will be a reflection.”

While Terry looks to be heading for the Chelsea exit, the new manager at the soon-to-be-dethroned Premier League champions will also have to contend with Kurt Zouma’s injury absence. The France defender will miss the European Championships this summer as well as the start of the season due to the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United in February, with the centre-back not expected to return until the start of September.

That would leave Chelsea with just Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic to deploy at the back, though January signing Matt Miazga is closing in on match fitness after making his first appearance for the Under-21’s last week.
