Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria appeared to deliver a painful blow to his old club when his Facebook page appeared to announce that Cristiano Ronaldo was moving to Paris Saint-Germain – only for it to be revealed that he had been hacked.

Whichever prankster decided to prematurely announce Ronaldo’s shock Real Madrid exit certainly sent a wave through the transfer mill, with the Portugal international currently facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Facebook post, which featured a picture of Di Maria and Ronaldo together during the days together at Real, included the caption: “Soon my friend. Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Chins immediately began to wag, with suggestions that Ronaldo’s reported falling out with Real manager Rafa Benitez may have pushed the 30-year-old out of the club and into the hands of PSG.

However, Di Maria’s wife, Jorgelina Cardodo, soon put an end to the speculation, and she revealed that it wasn’t the Argentina international who posted the message – not because he had been hacked, but rather that he doesn’t use any social media account.

She wrote on Instagram: “Angel does NOT use Facebook, he does NOT use Twitter.”

It’s believed that Ronaldo could be on the move come the summer, with Real considering whether to sell their prized-asset and rebuild the squad around the likes of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez. At 30 years old, Ronaldo would still command a fee in the region of £60m, a price that leaves PSG and United in a battle of their own unless another club makes their interest known.

The post was soon removed, and the account later deleted along with all 256,742 people that had liked it.
