Chelsea’s problems in goal could have an effect on Arsenal’s long-winded transfer plans as the Blues eye up a January move for a striker in a bid to get their season back on track, with Edinson Cavani the latest to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

French media outlet Le10 Sport is reporting that Cavani has been sounded out by the Chelsea hierarchy with a few to a move in January. The 28-year-old Uruguay international has always been linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain given that the lead-striker role is given to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cavani has also been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Manchester United in the past, but the Gunners do not look like they are in a position to strengthen their strike-fore this summer given manager Arsene Wenger’s defiance to stand by Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.

That could open the door for Chelsea to launch a move for the former Napoli forward, who would cost somewhere near the £35m mark. Cavani has also this week revealed reservations about staying in Paris following Friday’s tragic terrorist attacks that left at least 129 people dead and many more injured.

Cavani spoke with his international team-mate, Alvaro Gonzalez, about concerns that he had over travelling back to the French capital, although it is expected that he will rejoin PSG from international duty in time for Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash with Lorient on Saturday after the French minister confirmed the matches will go ahead as planned.

The reports come after the Blues were linked with Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain earlier this month. The Argentina international came close to joining Arsenal back in 2013 only for the Serie A side to steal in with a larger offer and lure the then-Real Madrid star to Italy, but their absence from the Champions League could see Higuain move on in the near-future.

Valencia’s Sofiane Feghouli is also being linked with Chelsea, with the 25-year-old Algeria international out of contract at the end of the season and free to negotiate a summer move from January onwards.
