The odds of Edinson Cavani joining Manchester United have been drastically slashed, leading to a belief that with 13 days remaining of the January transfer window, a marquee signing could arrive at Old Trafford.

Having been at 10/1 to join Manchester United, the odds have moved to 2/1 with bookmakers BetVictor.

The vastly reduced odds come amid reports that the Uruguay international is unhappy at Paris St Germain. The former Napoli player has been persistently utilised on the wing by PSG manager Laurent Blanc, much to Cavani's frustration.

It was also claimed this week by prominent Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport that Manchester United are prepared to make a huge bid to land the 28-year-old. Such a move does not seem beyond the realms of possibility considering the struggle for goals this season and over-reliance on Wayne Rooney to lead the attack. The available finances at Old Trafford are not in question.

Cavani has scored 10 goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances this term.
