Emmanuel Adebayor needs to 'Google' Crystal Palace's history: striker admits he doesn't know much about the club

The Togolese striker admits that his knoweldge of the South London club isn't the best

New Crystal Palace signing Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that his knowledge of the club isn't exactly at the standard it should be. The 31-year-old Togelese forward moved to the club on a free transfer having left Tottenham this month.

Known for his tendency to go through giddy goal-scoring highs to horrendous argument strewn lows, Adebayor is looking to get his career back on track with his latest move to South London.

In an interview on the club's official website the ex-Arsenal and Manchester City player initially expressed some level of knowledge about joining the club

“Palace have been playing the football that I like and they’ve got a few players that are my friends so all of those made me want to come here,”

However he then went on to admit. “I don’t know much about the club but it’s better to learn so I’ll be going on Google and finding out more about them."

And whilst checking Google may be the first step, Adebayor also seems eager to get back playing football. “I look forward to going to training ground as I know a few players like Zaha, Bolasie and Puncheon so I’ll go there and figure out how the team is playing and adapt myself to it, but I have been around the block so that shouldn’t be hard to do.”

Club manager Alan Pardew also seems excited to have Adebayor joining the squad. Today he told a Press Conference "You cannot underestimate the quality he has, I've tried to sign him at West Ham and Newcastle. I'm pleased to have him.

"He's a character that needs to be loved. He's very focused on integrating quickly and getting up to speed.

"Adebayor won't start on Saturday, he's not been around the action enough. Whether he'll be involved or not we'll wait and see."

The player has a colourful history; moving to Arsenal from Monaco in 2006 where he scored 46 goals in 104 games. In 2009 he controversially moved to high flying Manchester City, antagonising Arsenal fans with a length of the field celebration after scoring against his former side. The Togolese player, who has scored 31 international goals, fell out of favour at City and moved to Real Madrid in 2011 before joining Arsenal's North London rivals Tottenham

The forward experienced a feast or famine career at White Hart Lane. Under Harrry Redknapp he was Tottenham's top goalscore, but found himself in the youth team under Andre Villas-Boas. When Tim Sherwood took charge Adebayor has another resurgence before Mauricio Pochettino took over. The striker clashed so badly with the Argentine manager that he was released from his contract in September 2015.

Whatever happens at Selhurst Park, Adebayor will elicit a reaction. Crystal Palace fans hope that will mean more goals to help elevate the side into European football.
