Felipe Anderson to Manchester United: Lazio deny president Claudio Lotito admitted to selling £45million player

The Italian entrepreneur was reportedly overheard boasting about the profit made on Anderson

Lazio have denied reports that club president Claudio Lotito boasted of selling attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson for £45million.

Anderson, who still currently plays for the Serie A club, has been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League, chiefly Manchester United.

According to reports, Lotito was overheard by journalists saying to Crotone’s sporting director Giuseppe Ursino and president Gianni Vrenna: “I bought Felipe Anderson for €8million and have already sold him for €60million. Next year he’ll go to Manchester United."

Lotito, who is also president of Salerniata, was speaking at a press conference ahead of the Serie B club’s game against Crotone.

Lazio have moved swiftly to deny that Lotito made the remark and issued a short statement on their official website on Monday afternoon.

“In reference to statements attributed to president Claudio Lotito regarding the alleged sale of the player Felipe Anderson, SS Lazio insist that these are without any foundation,” it reads.

Anderson has scored seven goals in 32 appearances for i Biancocelesti this season, as the Serie A side have struggled to replicate the form which saw them finish third in 2014/15.
