QPR take Fabio on loan

The Manchester United left-back Fabio da Silva has joined Queen's Park Rangers on a season's loan. The 21-year-old is understudy to Patrice Evra at United, so his opportunities have been limited.

The Brazilian said: "This loan is so important for me in terms of my career. I want to play as many games as possible here."

QPR's manager, Mark Hughes, said: "It's a great opportunity for a good young player who has decent experience of playing for a top club like Manchester United."

O'Neill brings in Cuellar

Martin O'Neill yesterday snapped up the defender Carlos Cuellar on a two-year deal. The 30-year-old Spaniard's contract with Aston Villa expired at the weekend, so he will move on a free transfer.

Cuellar joined the Midlands club from Rangers during the summer of 2008 – when O'Neill was in charge at Villa Park.

Injuries, as well as falling out of favour with two subsequent Villa managers, Gérard Houllier and Alex McLeish, resulted in the Spaniard making only 27 Premier League starts in his last two seasons with the club.
