Manchester City are believed to be planning a £30m bid to try and persuade Leicester City to allow in-form striker Jamie Vardy leave in the January transfer window.

The Sun claims that City will attempt to sign the England international when the transfer window reopens in the new year, although the Foxes have made it clear that they do not wish to sell Vardy while they remain in the hunt for a top four finish. Despite suffering just their second defeat of the season in the 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Boxing Day, Leicester still lead the way at the top of the table after Arsenal failed to win at Southampton, suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat instead.

It’s added that Manuel Pellegrini wants to try and sign Vardy not only to strengthen his attacking options, but to also weaken a Premier League title rival – something that Leicester have to be taken seriously as given their incredible run of form through 2015.

The Sunday Mirror suggests that Chelsea and Tottenham are monitoring the future of Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, with the La Liga title challengers said to be open to offers for the Colombian after he failed to impress since his summer move.

Martinez has scored just three goals in 12 appearances in all competitions, and he has not played for Atletico since suffering an ankle injury in Colombia’s 1-1 draw with Chile on 12 November.

Liverpool will have to wait if they want to sign 19-year-old Schalke midfielder Leroy Sane after he told the Premier League club that he will not consider a move to England until the summer. The Daily Star claims that Sane’s agent, Jurgen Milewski, has informed the Merseyside club of his decision after being linked with an £11m move, although Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham have also been linked with the Germany international.

Aston Villa will look to try an add some much-needed strength to their mis-firing attack with an £8m bid for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, although whether the Englishman would be willing to join a club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League remains to be seen. The Daily Star claims Villa will offer QPR a large sum to sign Austin despite the 26-year-old being out of contract in the summer.

Finally, Everton are being linked with Bournemouth midfielder Matt Ritchie after his impressive first half of the season. The Sunday Mirror claims that the Toffees manager Roberto Martinez wants to sign 26-year-old Ritchie in the summer, although interest is also coming from West Ham, West Brom and Manchester United.
