Javier Hernandez latest: Southampton 'chasing' Manchester United striker, but Atletico not interested in Chicharito

Southampton are chasing a deal for Manchester United's Javier Hernandez, according to reports.

Southampton have already lost five first team players - Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers - this summer, while Jay Rodriguez is a target for Tottentham.

They have added Serbian left winger Dusan Tadic, Italian striker Graziano Pelle and Chelsea left back Ryan Bertrand to their ranks, but Ronald Koeman's squad still looks short of players.

Sky Sports report the new boss has made the Mexican a target.

Chicharito struggled to make an impression under David Moyes last season and looks to be beneath Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in Lous van Gaal's pecking order.

The 26-year-old scored just four Premier League goals, and nine overall, last season after scoring at least 10 Premier League goals in his first three seasons.

However, Hernandez has previously been reported to have blocked a move to the south coast. Southampton wanted the striker to be part of the deal that took Luke Shaw to Old Trafford but Hernanez was reported to have said no because it was too much of a step down.

Southampton will face competition for the striker from Inter Milan, but La Liga winners Ateltico Madrid have ruled themselves out of a move.

"Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither (Santi) Cazorla, (Jose) Callejon, (Fernando) Torres nor Chicharito are on our agenda," said Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo on Radio Marca.

"If we sign another player, it won't be any of them."
