Joleon Lescott joins Aston Villa: Club sign former West Brom defender for up to £2m

Former England defender Joleon Lescott has joined Aston Villa from rivals West Bromwich Albion after completing a medical.

Lescott spent just over a year at The Hawthorns after moving to the club on a free transfer last summer when his contract at Manchester City expired.

The 33-year-old saw manager Tony Pulis bring in centre-backs Jonny Evans and James Chester to the club this summer.

Tim Sherwood will partner Lescott, who has 26 England caps and also played for Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with another new signing, Micah Ricards, in the centre of defence, having seen stalwart Ron Vlaar leave the club over the summer.

Lescott cost City around £22million in 2009, but will cost Villa up to £2m.

"He's a player who has great Premier League experience and he'll be a huge help to the younger members of our squad," said Villa boss Tim Sherwood.
