Faiq Jefri Bolkiah, the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, says he has joined Leicester City from Chelsea on a long-term contract.

The 17-year-old has been with the Blues since agreeing a two-year scholarship in 2014, following short spells with Arsenal and Reading, but confirmed on Tuesday evening he would be joining the Premier League leaders.

Bolkiah, born in 1998 in Los Angeles, wrote on Instagram: “Happy to announce I have signed a long term professional contract at [Leicester]. Would like to thank all my family and close friends for all the support. Was also a pleasure meeting the owner himself. Can't wait to get started.”

The winger, who can play up front, posted a picture to the social media website featuring him alongside Leicester chairman and King Power chief Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

The Foxes are continuing to plan for the future with a host of academy signings in recent months, including the acquisition of Denmark under-19 international goalkeeper Daniel Iversen from Danish Superliga outfit Esbjerg.

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri is seeking assurances that the club will provide him with the backing he needs to strengthen his playing squad for their maiden campaign in the Champions League, should they be able to secure qualification this term.

Ranieri may return for CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa despite the Nigerian international recently saying publically he wishes to join title rivals Arsenal.

Leicester are believed to have failed with a succession of January offers for Musa, who cites former Gunners forward and fellow compatriot Nwankwo Kanu as his inspiration, but pulled out of the race when they were quoted a figure in excess of £22m.

“I would be happy if I was wanted by Arsenal,” he said this month. “I have supported the team since the age of six. Kanu has been my idol since childhood. It will be fantastic to play for Arsenal.

“I will not hide it; Leicester actually came to our club. But I repeat that I want to finish the season with CSKA to help them to win a championship, and then think about changing team.”
