Leicester City transfer news: Foxes boss Nigel Pearson to 'accelerate' Esteban Cambiasso deal

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has revealed that he will attempt to push through a move for former Real Madrid and Internazionale midfielder Esteban Cambiasso in the coming days.

The 34-year-old, who has 52 caps for World Cup finalists Argentina, has been released by the Milan club after making 315 appearances during ten years of service.

Both Danny Drinkwater and Matty James, invaluable for Leicester during last season's Championship title-winning campaign, picked up injuries this weekend with the latter missing the 2-2 draw with Everton altogether.

Pearson has already signed Matt Upson, Ben Hamer, Marc Albrighton and Leonardo Ulloa this summer, but the former Hull City manager is keen to strengthen further in light of the recent injury situation at the King Power Stadium.

"We have picked up a few injuries in games, which is a bit frustrating for us, but we just have to deal with it," he told the Leicester Mercury.

"It probably means we will try to add to the squad between now and the end of the window because the numbers game is important.

"So that will be ongoing this week or so and we will see where that takes us.

"The Cambiasso situation is something we will try accelerate in the next week. We can only work at the rate that the other parties involved want to work at. We will have to wait and see."

Leicester twice fell behind to Roberto Martínez's men on the opening day, after fine goals from Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith sent the Toffees on their way, but strikes from new £8m signing Ulloa and Chris Wood were enough to secure a precious point for the Foxes.

Pearson's men travel to Stamford Bridge next weekend to take on Premier League title favourites Chelsea and may also be without the presence of both Drinkwater and James for the home game against Arsenal in a fortnight.

"Matty got a heavy knock on his shin in training so will be out for a couple of weeks," Pearson continued.

"That is a big shame because he has done very well for us and it is very frustrating. Danny has come off with a potential hamstring problem but we will take 24 hours to establish the extent of that."

It is expected that Drinkwater will be out of action for up to ten days while his midfield counterpart is set to be on the sidelines for a fortnight.

The East Midlands club could, however, be bolstered by the signing of Olympique de Marseille full-back Rod Fanni in time for their trip to the capital.

The 32-year-old has lifted both the Coupe de la Ligue and Trophée des Champions in France and various reports suggest he may complete a medical this week.

Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton, who limped off during pre-season matches against Preston North End and Werder Bremen respectively, are expected back in training on Tuesday morning.
