Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has confirmed that he would like to sign defender Robert Huth on a permanent basis.

The 51-year-old boss has been impressed by the Stoke defender's impact since joining the Foxes on loan in January.

Leicester have hauled themselves clear of relegation with six wins in seven matches during a patch of form which has also seen them register four clean sheets.

Pearson admits Huth's presence in defence has been a big factor in their renaissance in recent weeks and is keen to discuss his situation with Stoke City boss Mark Hughes.

When asked if he would like to make the deal permanent in the summer, the Foxes boss insisted it would only happen if the Potters were willing to do business.

"I’ve been asked that question before and basically the answer was yes. But I don’t want to get into that sort of discussion when, firstly, I’ve not spoken to his parent club.

"I’ve not spoken to Mark about that and it’s not right for me to talk in the public domain without the relevant parties being involved in that conversation.

"Certainly he has done very well for us, I think you can get an answer from that."

Leicester were rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table when Huth arrived in the East Midlands four months ago, but they now lie in 15th place with two games remaining.

"I’m really pleased that we were able to bring him in when he did," Pearson continued.

"He didn’t play so much early on and he hasn’t played an awful lot of football this season but his experience has been very valuable for us.

"I think his performances have been excellent for us.

"It’s difficult to quantify and I’m very loathed to single people out. Having said that, I am more than happy to acknowledge his considerable contribution. His performances have been excellent."
