Alex Teixeira looks unlikely to be joining Liverpool as Shakhtar Donetsk hold out for £53.3m. The Ukrainian side's Chief Executive Sergei Palkin has told the Reds that if they really want to sign the player then they should be expected to fork out the value of the players buy-out clause.

According to The Mirror, the Merseyside club has previously offered a bid that could have risen to £27.5m. However, they would be expected to nearly double that to tempt their Brazilian target.

Despite Palkin’s assertion, Liverpool legend John Barnes has offered a conflicting account. “I would be wary of matching Shakhtar's massive valuation of Teixeira, but I can see late negotiations between the clubs happening.”

"January is a time of rumour and hearsay, but I hope to see the Teixeira come to Anfield before Monday’s deadline."

Jurgen Klopp may then turn his attention AS Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes if the Teixeira deal doesn’t go through. According to Talksport, the midfielder who is loan at fellow Italian club Empoli, could find himself on the way to Anfield this transfer window. The Argentian playmaker has played 13 times this season and could help to bolster the Reds midfield.

On his way out of the club may be 19-year-old forward Jerome Sinclair. The Metro have reported that Watford have made a bid for the youngster who is valued at £3m by Liverpool. The strikers contract runs out this season and he may be tempted by a move which could provide him with more first team action.

Another youngster in and around the transfer news is Newcastle’s Fred Woodman. The 18-year-old hasn’t turned out in a senior game but Liverpool look keen on signing the player. The England Under 19 international has been on loan at Crawley this season but could be a long-term replacement for out-of-sorts Simon Mignolet.
