LIVERPOOL BOUND...

Liverpool's hopes of signing centre-back Ron Vlaar appear to have hit a snag amid reports that Manchester United have sneaked ahead of those wanting to sign the Aston Villa defender. Louis van Gaal has a £1.5 bid in the pipeline for his fellow Dutchman, who will be out of contract in the summer. Brendan Rodgers had been interested in the 29-year-old as he seeks to put a plug in his leaky defence.

HEADING FOR THE EXIT...

Rickie Lambert could be on his way out of Anfield. The former Southampton striker has failed to make an impact at his beloved Liverpool and reports today suggest Crystal Palace could look to give him a chance to find his scoring boots again. New Eagles manager Alan Pardew sees the forward as the man to get his relegation threatened side out of trouble, according to the Guardian.

Steven Gerrard is expected to agree a deal with LA Galaxy imminently, possibly as early today. The Liverpool captain had already confirmed he was moving to the MLS but his exact location hadn't been revealed. Gerrard would have stayed at Anfield beyond this season had he been offered a deal in the summer, he told the Liverpool Echo.

Another player leaving Anfield is Suso. Reports earlier this week indicated that the midfielder was likely to be heading to the exit and the latest suggests a four-year deal has already been agreed between the player and AC Milan. His contract runs out in the summer, but a deal could brought forward to the current transfer window.

TWIST...

Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is understood to be a serious target for Liverpool but the Anfield club have been facing competition from Juventus and Inter Milan. However, that's not the only other club interested in the Switzerland international. Stoke City are too. "He's definitely on the list, but there is competition for a player of his ability," said Stoke's assistant manager Mark Bowen. "There are other clubs interested, but it doesn't mean we rule ourselves out."
