Iago Aspas to leave Liverpool on loan for a return to Spain with Sevilla

Striker has spent just a season at Anfield, scoring a solitary goal

Liverpool are close to letting Spanish flop Iago Aspas go on loan to Sevilla, according to reports.

Aspas arrived at Anfield in June 2013 as a £7.2m signing from Celta Vigo, but now appears to be on his way back to Spain after just a season.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the striker will move to Sevilla with Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre on his way to Seville to negotiate.

Aspas started just six matches for Brendan Rodgers' side, scoring a solitary goal in an FA Cup third round tie against Oldham in January.

The striker played just a season in La Liga, scoring 12 goals for Celta Vigo, the season before he scored 23 in Segunda Division.

Liverpool last week rejected a £5m bid from Sevilla for the striker, and although this deal is thought to be a loan, the Reds would sell if they recouped the majority of the £7.2m.

Aspas could also be used as bait in a potential deal for Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno, who Rodgers has been chasing to fill his troubled left back spot.
