Liverpool will face stiff competition in the race to sign Mahmoud Dahoud, Borussia Möchengladbach’s highly-rated midfielder, according to reports.

The Syrian-born Germany Under-21 international has caught the eye of several top European clubs having impressed alongside Granit Xhaka in the Bundesliga side’s midfield.

Dahoud, who is being monitored by Jürgen Klopp and is aware of the interest shown in him from Anfield, is also being tracked by Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The talented 20-year-old shares an agent with Emre Can and Samed Yesil, two German players already on Liverpool's books, but according to The Times, a deal is unlikely unless the Merseyside club qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Möchengladbach are believed to be reluctant to listen to any offers for Dahoud or Xhaka, who is a target is for Arsenal, though could be convinced to let the former leave the club for a fee of £25million.

“Dahoud is not for sale,” Max Eberl, Möchengladbach’s sporting director, told reporters at the end of last month. “We are a hungry club and we need every good player."

Dahoud, formerly part of the academy set-up at Fortuna Dusseldorf, has established himself as a box-to-box midfielder, capable of providing dynamism and energy in the centre of the park.

Möchengladbach’s talented young prospect has scored 4 goals and notched 7 assists in his 28 Bundesliga appearances this season, while covering an average of 13 kilometres a game.

Liverpool have already completed deals which will see Marko Grujic, a young midfielder currently on loan at Red Star Belgrade, and Joël Matip, the Schalke 04 centre-back, join at the end of the season.
