Lukas Podolski has rubbished reports that he will be leaving Arsenal to join their fierce rivals Tottenham, saying "hell will freeze over" before the transfer would happen.

The German international has been constantly linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer, after falling further down the pecking order after the arrival of Danny Welbeck, who joined the club for £17m from Manchester United in September.

Podolski has made only one start for the north Londoners this season, in the 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat by Southampton.

The 29-year-old was quoted as saying last week that he was not happy with his current situation at Arsenal.

"I have assessed my position in the team, and it has to change now," Podolski had told reporters after Germany's 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.

However, Podolski today responded to a story tweeted out by BBC Sport by saying that he would never leave Arsenal for Tottenham, and also hinted that he hopes to stay with the Gunners, using the hashtag "Always a Gunner".

Arsenal are next in action on Wednesday, in the Champions League away at Anderlecht.
