France's Mamadou Sakho could face retrospective punishment after appearing to elbow Ecuador midfielder Oswaldo Minda in the face during the goalless draw last night.

The referee, Noumandiez Doue of Ivory Coast, missed the incident, so the defender received no card.

Like Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez and his alleged bite, Fifa could ban the player after reviewing the incident again.

Any disciplinary action will have to be concluded before Monday, when France are back in action against Nigeria in the Last 16.

The draw was an ill-tempered affair, after Antonio Valencia was sent off for Ecuador. It was the Manchester United winger's second yellow card in his last four international matches.

Should he be banned for the rest of the tournament? Watch the incident below...

France could face Germany or Belgium in the quarter-final should they defeat Nigeria.
