Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus in battle for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie

Arsenal have received offers from Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus for striker Robin van Persie, according to widespread reports.

The Arsenal captain has a year left to run on his contract and has made it clear he will not be signing a new deal.

His announcement has led to much speculation about his future, with Arsenal expected to cash in on last season’s Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' player of the year before he can leave for free next summer.

Juventus have long been linked with the Dutch international, with general director Giuseppe Marotta hinting at a move for the 28-year-old.

"Van Persie is a fan's dream. Everyone has dreams but then you have to confront this with the reality. We know what we have to do and that is the important thing," he said.

Manchester City also hold Van Persie in high regard, with manager Roberto Mancini keen to add him to his Premier League winning side. It’s understood that the Sky Blues want to offload some other strikers before upping their interest although it’s been reported that they have tabled a bid. City have agreed a fee with Tottenham for Emmanuel Adebayor, although the player is stalling over personal terms at White Hart Lane. Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez could also be moved on, with the pair heavily linked with AC Milan who recently sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It has now been reported that Manchester United are very much in the hunt and have tabled an offer for Van Persie. Yet the figure is understood to fall short of Arsenal’s valuation and was therefore rejected, with the Gunners looking to hold out for a fee in the region of £25m, which may be optimistic considering he has just a year left on his contract.

The belief that Van Persie will be sold by Arsenal this summer rather than the north Londoners holding him to the final year of his contract appears to have been confirmed by the decision to omit the striker from Arsenal’s tour of Asia. Although the official reason will be that he is lacking match fitness having met up with the squad late due to his involvement in Euro 2012, leaving him behind in London will simplify negotiations over his future.
