Manchester United will not be making any signings before the end of the January transfer window, says Louis van Gaal.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of players, among them Kevin Strootman, Gareth Bale and Mats Hummels.

With the current defenders at Old Trafford coming under scrutiny this season and Manchester United in no way assured of a top-four place and the Champions League place that comes with it, reinforcements at the back were thought likely.

However, Victor Valdes looks set to be the only signing this month. The former Barcelona goalkeeper was a free agent and had already been training with the club.

Asked if there would be any arrivals before Monday's deadline, Van Gaal was insistent there would not be.

"No. I read every day that I am interested in players. I am not interested in players.

"I have said we are selling or letting players go....but you never trust me."

There could be outgoing though. Van Gaal has confirmed Darren Fletcher is heading to West Ham whilst Wilfried Zaha could be signed permanently by Crystal Palace, where he is currently on loan.
