Florentino Perez can't say whether David De Gea will be at Manchester United or Real Madrid next season

Real are looking to finally sign De Gea this summer with United hoping it means Gareth Bale could become available

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has insisted he’s “not a fortune teller” and has no idea whether David De Gea will be at Manchester United or at the Bernabeu next season.

The 12-time European Champions are desperate to add the Spaniard to their squad for next season as they look to continue their domination of Europe, with United, who have no need to sell the goalkeeper, willing to negotiate.

United believe selling De Gea to Real will give them leverage when it comes to trying to sign a player in return, likely to be Gareth Bale, should they be able to persuade the Welshman to return to the Premier League.

Any transfer could therefore be convenient to all parties. Despite that, Bale is unlikely to come cheap, and Real would still insist on a fee of around £100m with the deal for De Gea being completely separate.

United have so far been resolute in their refusal to even countenance the sale of the goalkeeper, since they simply do not need the money or to negotiate, although some sources feel a swap deal could yet be possible.

And Perez, who has spent three summers chasing De Gea, was unwilling to be drawn on whether he would make a return to La Liga or not.

“De Gea is a great goalkeeper who plays for Manchester United,” he told Atresmedia. “I don't know where he will play next season because I'm not a fortune teller.”
