Manchester United and England striker Danny Welbeck looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer - if the club are successful in securing the services of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.

The Red Devils are believed to be extremely close to finalising a deal to sign the Argentine ace after a fee in excess of £50m was agreed with Madrid this weekend.

Paris St. Germain had been the previous favourites to sign the 26-year-old but their Financial Fair Play woes appear to have influenced their decision to pull out of the running.

Welbeck is already below Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez in Louis van Gaal's pecking order and would be expected to find himself a new club before the transfer deadline.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are among the front runners to sign Welbeck for a fee in the region of £15m.

Spurs shairman Daniel Levy, however, could be deterred by the £80,000-a-week wages he would be expected to pay.

London rivals Arsenal are also on the lookout for attacking cover and may make a surprise move for the England international, but Spurs remain the most likely destination.
